Planting

The planting stage of a project is always a delight: the colouring-in of the project!

Amy is an experienced, and highly creative plants’ woman, having invested considerable time in visiting gardens of all types, from the prestigious to the petite, and all between; attending talks from the finest plants people, and growing and experimenting in her own garden.  She works diligently to ensure all-season interest and diversity, with a keen understanding of ongoing maintenance. Although there is no such thing as a low-maintenance garden, Amy aims to design site-appropriate planting that takes account of her clients’ and their gardeners’ time and expertise.

Getting to know you

We’ll spend time with you getting to know your preferences, lifestyle and how you envision using the space. For example, do you want a vibrant cottage garden, a minimalist zen retreat, or a productive edible garden?

Analysing your site

We’ll analyse your site including assessing your garden’s soil type, light conditions, drainage, and existing features to determine what plants will thrive.

Taking account of practicalities

We’ll factor in your budget, maintenance preferences, and any specific needs like attracting pollinators or creating privacy.

Plant selection

We use our expertise to choose plants that meet your aesthetic desires while also considering their suitability to the environment and your long-term goals.

Composition and structure

We’ll create a visually appealing and harmonious design by playing with colour, texture, height, and seasonal interest. This might involve:

  • Focal points: Using striking plants to draw the eye.
  • Layering: Combining different heights and forms for depth.
  • Repetition: Repeating certain plants to create unity and rhythm.

Sustainability

We prioritise environmentally friendly choices like drought-tolerant plants and those that support local wildlife.

Detailed drawings

We create a planting plan with precise locations for each plant, along with labels and quantities.

Plant schedule

This will contain a comprehensive list of all the chosen plants, including their scientific names, common names, and key characteristics.

Supporting Information

This might include mood boards, videos or maintenance guides to help you care for your new garden.

Sourcing plants

We source and order the plants for you, ensuring quality and saving you time.

Planting

We plant everything according to the agreed plans, ensuring that the design is executed correctly.
